River – The final card in a flop game or a stud game. A flop type game, such as Hold’em or Omaha uses community cards. Community cards are cards which the dealer places face up in the center on the table, and all players share. In a typical flop game there are five community cards in total.
What is River in Poker? The river is the name given the final betting round in the majority of poker variants. As an example, the betting rounds in Texas Hold’em are preflop, flop, turn and river. The river card, or just river, is the last card dealt. In most community poker games, the dealer starts each hand by dealing every player two hole (facedown) cards. Then the progression is betting round, flop, betting round, turn, betting round and finally river to the end the hand.
When you make it to the river (which actually happens a lot less often than you might think), all the players have been given the final card on the board with which to make their best 5-card hand.
